Two snowstorms within three days! Aaarrgh! M and I agreed that we couldn’t ever remember two in one week let alone within this short a period. And this second one came with the B-word attached: Blizzard! But that letter could also stand for bizarre. Because this was a storm in two acts.
Act I. Light, powdery snow started falling last night around 9 p.m. It continued on through the night, turning into sleet towards morning. At around 10 a.m., with about two to three inches on the ground, it stopped. One of the township’s plow, working through the night, had done a decent job of clearing our street. Our own plow guy showed up, cleared most of the snow off our driveway and successfully tackled the huge mound the township plow had piled along the foot. I noticed a good-sized boulder parked next to our mailbox. It would have made a dandy start for a snowman. I’ve never made one in my life, and no way was I going to do so now. Have I mentioned that I hate snow? Yeah, it can be very pretty.
But it’s cold, and it’s wet. Good for summer drinks. But when it comes to weather – Blech!
Act II. The snow started up again around 2 p.m. There didn’t seem to be much wind, so maybe it wasn’t technically a blizzard. But the snow fell steadily all afternoon and into the evening.
The township plow came down and up our street several times, keeping the road passable in case emergency vehicles needed to get through. The snow stopped around 9 p.m. I don’t know how much we got. But it was way more than enough, thank you!
A little past 9, I was in the kitchen preparing dinner, and M was in the family room. Suddenly, we heard a tremendous crashing sound coming from our backyard.
More tomorrow about what it turned out to be.
Snow Total Update: M corrected me that the total for Act I was 5 to 6″. According to our local Traffic & Weather Together channel, the official total in our town for Acts I and II is 17.5″. That, of course, is on top of the 12.5″ from the weekend storm, not much of which had melted.
