Time for the annual spring clean-up. This year, in addition to the usual bed clean-up, pruning, and mulching, we made some major changes to the landscaping. The biggest was a large area in the front, which got all new shrubs and plants.
The rose shrub we put in last year didn’t do very well, so it has been replaced with this plant which will bloom with white flowers.
In the back, the hemlocks along the fence have thinned out to the point of no longer providing complete privacy. Our landscaper chopped off the bottom branches in order to install four shrubs near the fence line. Once they grow tall enough to provide privacy, we’ll take out the hemlocks.
Last year, we put in several hostas plants. Well, it seems the deer that visit our property from time to time thought they made a dandy salad and feasted on the leaves. Nothing left but a few sad stalks. Our landscaper says the deer will not find these new plants so tasty.
I love the coloration of this new shrub that sits to the side of the barbecue.
